Romania propertyRomania Useful Information Romanian Black Sea coast

The Romanian seaside is located in the Dobrogea region of Romania, most of the resorts being in Constanta county located in the south east part of Romania. The actual city of Constanta, is one of the oldest in Romania, dating back from the Antiquity being founded by the Greeks and later inhabited by Romans as they did for most part of Romania (former Dacia). Constanta city today expands for many kilometres along the Black Sea Coast and is the biggest commercial port and a big centre of culture and civilization. Constanta county has the total surface of 7,055 km2.

The plateau, with low altitudes, is dominated as relief type; lakes, estuaries and lagoons are characteristics of this area. Dobrogea region, is the oldest Romanian province, has the qualities of an exceptional area. It is surrounded by water on three sides: at the west the lower course of the Danube (the biggest Europe’s river), in the north-west Macinului Mountains, the oldest land of the country, further north is the Danube Delta (unique in Europe by its features), and in the east by the Back Sea. Due to its vast sunny landscapes, and its microclimate Dobrogea area is the best vine-growing area in Romania. Only at 24 km far from Constanta, you can find the world-renowned vine-yard, Murfatlar, where you can taste tens of different white and red wines; Murfatlar are appreciated especially for their sweet, frutty taste: Murfatlar, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Muscat Otonel, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Lacrima lui Ovidiu, Merlot wine are all national and international labels. Dobrogea’s vine is so good that Romania’s kings used to preserve for the country’s treasure a refined specially contained vine amount for hundreds of years.
The Romanian seaside extends along 245 km of shores starting from the Danube’s arms in reaching the sea in the north and continued with the lagoons in the north side, and then the cliffs, the golf and mulls. The beach is almost all day sunny, with white sand and gentle sloping shores. Though Romania can be very hot in summer along the beaches one is thrilled by cooling breezes which make the beach experience fabulous. It is the perfect place for airtherapy and sand baths. Along the Romanian shore there are a couple of salt lakes which, over hundred of years developed a precious mud suited to many kinds of natural treatments for conditions such as: arthritis, respiration, high-blood pressure, and so on. Near the popular resort of Costinesti there is the biggest and famous such lake called Techirghiol.

Constanta county has a thriving economy mainly due to its commercial and industrial businesses. It boasts the biggest commercial port on the Black sea which flows in and out most of the maritime goods flow of the country. Constanta holds also a huge shipyard. It is the nodal place between river and sea transport. Other industries include: agriculture 707.129 ha of land used on harvesting various cultures), followed by tourism, water transport, automotive engineering industry, chemical industry.

Climate is mild Mediterranean. The medium annual temperature is 11°C- in July the average is of 22-25°C, and in January more than 0°C. The precipitations are reduced, same the atmospheric nebulosity. The wind is coming from north-west, and the sea breeze makes the summer air cooler and very pleasant. The water salinity is lower than in other seas. The Romanian Black Sea is a oriental sea and at summer it reaches temperatures of 26°- 28°C with low tides. One of the most important characteristics is low pollution and no dangerous fauna.

Romanians are very friendly people who like to enjoy themselves in summer. It is no surprise then that the fun will continue until late at night in bars, clubs, discos. Beyond its colourful and characteristic Black Sea resorts among which Costinesti packs the biggest clubbing crowds, there are many more things enticing the millions of tourists on the Romania’s shores. Close to Constanta you can find the Siutghiol Lake. A cruise on this lake gives you the opportunity to visit Ovidiu’s Island the place of exile for the famous latin poet. Constanta itself hosts the old Roman mosaic and the Antiquity museum of history (see more on the history places below). One can also travel to the Delta and stop along to see Portita, a vast laguna type expanse of water and stuff. While on the Romania’s coast you should also visit the seaside or the Danube by helicopter or entertainment aircrafts (Romania is famous for its airclubs), or you can dive in Costinesti, Jupiter, Olimp and Mangalia. Other tourist places are: The Aquarium and The Planetarium in Constanta, The Equitation Center in Mangalia, etc. And of course you should enjoy the Black sea ashore, and go on a boat to see the friendly dolphins (some species unique to this sea) as well as fishing the guvids.

Constanta has an international airport. Ryanair is actually due to start a frequent flying service from Ireland. Nearby a major US military base is relocating from Germany, which is expected to bring huge modern facilities to the commercial airport as well. Road transport is also excellent travelling to the Romania’s Black sea with the country’s only new motorway connecting Bucharest to Constanta being due for completion (the last 35 kms of it) by 2009. There are also other major roads from Constanta to Bucharest or into Moldavia in the north of Dobrogea. Modern train and regular coach services connect the seaside (all resorts) o the rest of the country.

These treatments are well known for healing the old body and giving energy to the organism. The main places for these treatments are: Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Costinesti, Mangalia and Techirghiol.

Cheia Massive – on the left border of Casimcea Valee – it is sheltering approximately 565 rare specie of flowers. Agigea Dunes – Agigea village 50 Km far from Black Sea Coast – 120 species of plants; Techirghiol Lake – the largest saline lake in Romania, with a surface of 10,7 km2; Topalu Reef – between Cernavoda and Harsova – with a surface of 8 ha. Dobrogea’s Caves – close to Limanu village – Limanu Cave, Liliecilor Cave, La Adam Cave. Liliecilor Cave has a surface of 480 m. More than 20 species of fossils were discovered here.

These are characteristic to Romania’s seaside. The most important ones are: Oltina, Istria, Sinoe, Corbul, Techirghiol, Siutghiol, Tatlageac. Costinesti itself has a small lake in the centre of the resort.
